Resurrection Lifestyle

TOP

Perhaps the most famous passage in 1 Corinthians, chapter 15 turns out not to be so much a ‘proof of the resurrection’ (as it’s often preached at easter) as an argument for living a ‘resurrection lifestyle.’ If the dead are not raised, we can eat, drink and be merry - but the dead ARE indeed raised, so we’ve got work to do! What can you do with $10?

Around 20% of the population of Namibia lives with HIV or AIDS - but it’s hard to know how to help. MPC is partnering with Gateway Presbyterian Church and the Namibian Evangelical Bible Church to help turn back the tide with EBCAIDS LifeSkills, After School, and Home Based Care Programs. Every dollar and every cent from Australia will reach Namibia with no administration costs. $10 will buy workbooks and pens for ten kids in the After School Program.
$100 will train two AIDS awareness workers. For more info email crb@aapt.net.au or phone 07 32164151. You can visit the project blog here. Our goal is for every man, woman and child in the mpc church family to donate $10 towards the project!

Encouraging Words

TOP

This week we take a look at 1 Corinthians 12 to 14 - three chapters! It’s a long passage, but one that’s tied together by a single, simple idea. While some people want to mark themselves out as “spirituals” by speaking in unintelligible tongues, Paul says we should be seeking the greater gifts - those that are most effective in building up the body in love. Prophecy (speaking God-given words to strengthen, encourage and comfort - 14:3) is much more useful! But somehow, the Corinthians even manage to get that wrong! Click below to listen.

Whose Body is it Anyway?

TOP

When Jesus said the words “This is my body, which is for you,” he was setting an uncomfortable precedent for his later followers. With Corinthian Christian women asserting their independence by publicly unveiling, and the wealthy elite enjoying private Lord’s Supper Banquets while poorer church members went hungry, the church in Corinth is missing the point. Following Jesus is about serving others and giving up your rights - not about being served!
